Questions carpet cleaners ask about marketing

Straight answers for carpet cleaning owners on reviews, pricing ads, Google Ads waste, before-and-after video, the benchmark data and the free 14-day trial.

How many Google reviews does a carpet cleaning company need?

More than the two companies you appear beside in the map pack. Across 24,196 carpet cleaning listings the median is 12 reviews and 45.1% sit under 10. The companies holding the map pack in a real metro are usually past 100, and only 15% of the trade has gotten there. One review per job day is the target, asked for during the final walk-through. The scripts are in the reviews guide.

Should I advertise a "$99 whole house" price?

Only if you will actually clean a whole house for $99, which almost nobody can. The ads that run that number are usually written to get a technician in the door and rewrite the ticket to $300 or more, and the trade's reputation for it is why so many callers open with "what is the catch." Publishing a per-room or per-square-foot price with a stated minimum wins those callers instead. See the pricing guide.

What does a carpet cleaning lead cost on Google Ads?

Roughly $25 to $80 per call in most US metros. The accounts that lose money are almost always broad matching "carpet cleaner" and paying for people shopping for a machine to buy or a rental unit. Add "rental", "shampooer", "machine", "how to", "vinegar" and "jobs" as negatives on day one, run exact and phrase match on service terms, and turn on call recording. Details in the Google Ads guide.

Do I need a website if I have a Google profile?

The data says the serious operators have both. Carpet cleaners with a website carry a median of 24 reviews; the ones with no site linked carry 3. 30.4% of the trade lists no website. The site is where you publish real prices, dry times, and the before-and-after gallery that closes a price shopper, and it is what Google and the AI answer engines read to confirm what you do and where. The website guide lists the seven things it has to do.

What is the most profitable thing to add to a job?

The add-ons, in this order: pet treatment, upholstery, tile and grout, and protectant. A $180 three-room job becomes a $310 job with a sofa and a pet treatment, on the same trip, with the truck already running. Most owners undersell these because they wait for the customer to ask. Price them on the quote sheet and have the technician walk the house.

How often should a customer have carpets cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months for a typical household, more often with pets, children, or light-colored carpet. That cadence is the whole business model: a customer list of 800 past jobs, texted at month 13, is the cheapest booking channel you will ever own. Most carpet cleaners never build the list. The slow-season plan shows how to work it.

Does before-and-after video actually book jobs?

Yes, and it is the single best-performing creative in this trade on Meta and short-form video. The wand pulling one clean stripe across a filthy traffic lane, filmed in one unbroken shot with no music, outperforms produced ads consistently. The dirty recovery tank does almost as well. Budgets and offers are in the Meta ads guide.

How do I compete with the national franchise names?

You do not outspend them, you out-specify them. Franchises run generic copy and shared call centers. You can name the neighborhoods, publish real per-room prices, answer your own phone, and show your own truck. On the profile side, 50% of listings in this trade show no hours at all and 37% show Saturday hours, so simply being reachable on a weekend is a visible edge.

Truck-mount or portable: does the customer care?

The customer does not know the words, but they care about what the words mean. Explain it once on your site and once on the phone: a truck-mounted unit heats water hotter and pulls more of it back out, so carpets dry in hours rather than a day. That paragraph answers the drying-time question that stops most bookings, and it is the kind of plain explanation the AI answer engines quote.

Is the benchmark data trustworthy?

It is public data collected at scale, so treat it as accurate to a point or two, not to the decimal. Listings are deduplicated by Google place and refreshed monthly. Google does not publish this cut of the data itself, which is why we compute it. The full method is on the about page.

Where does the benchmark data come from?

Public Google Business Profile listings found through Google Maps searches for carpet cleaning companies in all 51 states and territories covered. We store only public business fields such as review count, rating, hours and category. No reviewer names and no personal data.

What is included in the free 14-day trial?

Any one of the services we run, or several: Google Ads management, Meta ads, AI search optimization, local SEO and Google Business Profile work, website design, social media management, review generation, missed-call text-back and follow-up, email and SMS to your past-customer list, bookkeeping, and cold-call appointment setting for property managers. Setup, management and reporting are included. Ad spend paid to Google or Meta, if you choose to run ads, is yours.

What happens after the 14 days?

You decide. Keep the service at the monthly price quoted before the trial started, switch to a different one, or stop. Nothing renews on its own, nothing is charged during the trial, and whatever was built in your accounts stays in your accounts.

Do I have to give a credit card?

No. There is no card on file at any point during the trial. What we need is access to the accounts involved, your service area and price list, and a 20-minute setup call. Most services are live within 48 hours; a new website takes about a week to first draft.
