Carpet Cleaning Playbook is an independent site for people who own carpet cleaning companies. It exists because this trade gets more bad marketing advice than almost any other, most of it from people who have never watched a truck-mount fail on a Saturday morning.
Who writes it
Steve Meitler is the editor. He has spent years running growth campaigns for local service businesses, carpet and upholstery cleaning companies among them, and has read enough proposals aimed at cleaners to know what they all leave out: a number you can check.
Where the benchmark numbers come from
The benchmark report is built from public Google Business Profile listings. We run Google Maps searches for carpet cleaning companies in every US state, record the public fields on each listing (review count, star rating, whether a website is linked, hours, primary category, location), remove duplicates by Google place, and compute the statistics. Nothing comes from behind a login and no reviewer names or personal details are stored. The dataset currently holds 24,196 listings across 51 states and is refreshed monthly. At that scale collection errors are unavoidable, so read every figure as accurate to within a point or two rather than to the decimal. Where a stat is thin, such as the 10.5% of listings with no rating at all, we say so instead of smoothing it over.
Editorial rules
- No pay-to-play. No chemical brand, equipment maker, franchise or software company has paid for a word on this site.
- Every number is sourced, either to our own dataset or to a primary source such as Google's published documentation. Opinions are labeled as opinions.
- Guides are written for an owner who is on a job right now. If a step cannot be done between jobs or handed to whoever answers the phone, it does not go in.
- We do not publish "$99 whole house" advice. Pricing content here assumes you intend to honor the number you advertise.
- Guides get updated when the platforms change, and every update is dated.
How the free trial works
The site is funded by the marketing work we do for carpet cleaning companies. Every service is offered as a free 14-day trial because an owner should watch the phone before paying anyone. You text or call, tell us which one you want to try (Google Ads, Meta ads, AI search optimization, local SEO and Google profile work, a website, social media, review generation, missed-call text-back, email and SMS to your past-customer list, bookkeeping, or cold-call appointment setting for property managers), and we build it inside your own accounts, usually within 48 hours of a 20-minute setup call. It runs 14 days. No card is taken and nothing renews. At the end you keep it at the price quoted before it started, switch to a different service, or stop and keep whatever was built.
