Every holiday carpet job is a sofa job you have not sold yet. The 30-day add-on play
The cheapest holiday revenue for a carpet cleaner is the customer already booked. A 30-day plan to add upholstery, rugs and stairs before the trucks roll.
The holiday bookings are starting to come in, and most of them will be the same ticket: three bedrooms and a hallway, or the living room before the in-laws arrive. Then you finish the carpet, the customer looks at the sofa next to it, and says "I wish I had thought of that." By then your next job is in 40 minutes and the van is already loaded.
Over the next 30 days, the cheapest money you can make is not a new customer. It is the second line item on a job you already booked. Here is how to sell it on purpose, week by week, before the rush starts.
Why this is the right play right now
New holiday leads are expensive. Every carpet cleaner in town is bidding on the same searches in November, and our Google Ads guide covers why cost per lead tends to climb as the holidays get closer. A customer already on your calendar costs you nothing more to reach.
The reasons to add a sofa, a rug or the stairs are also strongest right now. Guests will sit on the couch. The dog has been on it since summer. The entry rug takes every muddy boot from now until spring. You do not have to invent a reason. You only have to ask before the day of the job.
Week one: decide what you are selling
Pick three add-ons and put a clear price on each. A simple menu works better than "ask about our other services." For example, with your own numbers:
- Sofa or loveseat: one flat price per piece
- Area rug: a price per rug up to a set size
- Stairs: a price per staircase, or per step with a minimum
Then make one bundle. "Add any two to your carpet job and save $25" is easy to understand on a phone. Our pricing guide covers why a flat bundle protects your rate better than a percent off.
Check your schedule too. Add-ons take time. If a sofa adds 30 minutes, block 30 more minutes on any job that buys one, or the rest of your day falls apart.
Week two: ask at booking
Every booking from now on gets one question, on the phone or in the booking text:
"Got you down for Thursday the 20th. Before the holidays a lot of people add the sofa or the stairs while we are already there. Anything else you want us to look at? The sofa is [price], and if you add two pieces you save $25."
That is the whole script. Ask once. If they say no, say "no problem" and move on. Train whoever answers your phone to say it the same way every time.
If you book online, add the three add-ons as checkboxes on the booking page, with prices, right above the submit button.
Week three: text everyone already booked
Now go back to every customer already on the calendar for November and December who did not add anything. Send one text, two to three weeks before their date:
"Hi [first name], it's [your name] with [company]. You are booked for carpet cleaning on [date]. If you want, we can do your sofa, a rug or the stairs the same visit. Sofa is [price], and any two add-ons save you $25. Just reply with what you want added."
Only send it to customers who agreed to get texts from you. Reply to every answer within the hour, and update the job so the tech knows before they arrive. Our missed calls guide covers how to keep replies from slipping through on busy days.
Week four: give the techs one line
Some customers will not decide until they see the carpet done. Give every tech one line to say during the final walk-through:
"Carpets are done. While we are set up, I have time to do that chair or the entry rug today for [price]. Want me to?"
Only offer it if the next job allows it. A tech who runs late to the next house to sell a chair has lost you money.
This is also the right moment to ask for a review. The customer is looking at clean carpet and is in a good mood. Our reviews guide has the exact words.
Put it on Google and your site
Make sure upholstery, area rug and stair cleaning are listed as separate services on your Google Business Profile and your website, each with a short line about price. Some customers search for "couch cleaning" and never think of a carpet company at all. In our data 30.4% of carpet cleaning companies have no website, which means a lot of competitors cannot show up for those searches with a dedicated page.
Track it
Keep a simple count for the 30 days: how many booked jobs got the ask, and how many added something. Then compare your average ticket to last November. Whatever the number turns out to be, you will know whether the ask is worth training harder on before spring.
The short version
The customers already on your holiday calendar are your best leads. Pick three add-ons with clear prices, ask at booking, text everyone who is already booked, and give techs one line for the walk-through. It costs almost nothing and it starts this week. The benchmark report shows how your reviews and profile compare while you are at it.
