Many carpet cleaners list no hours on Google. That is costing you the Saturday spill calls

A huge share of carpet cleaning profiles show no hours at all. Why that hides you from weekend and evening searches, and the 15-minute fix for your profile.

Saturday afternoon, someone spills red wine on a cream carpet the week before hosting Thanksgiving. They search "carpet cleaner near me," tap the map, and look for a company that looks open. Yours shows no hours, so they call the next one.

This is one of the most common mistakes we see on carpet cleaning profiles. In our data 50% of carpet cleaning companies list no hours on their Google profile at all. That is not a small group of neglected listings. It is a large part of the category.

Why owners leave hours blank

Usually for a reason that sounds sensible. You work by appointment. You are in the van all day. You do not want people showing up at your house, or your shop, expecting a storefront.

All fair. But blank hours do not tell Google or customers "by appointment." They tell them nothing, and nothing looks like closed, or worse, out of business.

What blank hours cost you

The "open now" filter. People searching on their phone often tap "Open now" or Google filters for it automatically when they search at night or on weekends. A profile with no hours can drop out of those results.

Trust. A customer comparing three companies sees two with hours and one without. The one without looks less established. That matters in a category where people are letting a stranger into their home.

AI answers. When someone asks an assistant for a carpet cleaner who can come this weekend, the tool leans on what your profile and site say. If neither says you work Saturdays, you are hard to recommend. Our AI search guide covers what else they read.

The holiday rush. The weeks before Thanksgiving and the end-of-year holidays are when spill emergencies and pre-hosting cleans pile up. Those searches happen evenings and weekends, when owners are home.

The fix, in about 15 minutes

1. Set the hours you answer the phone, not the hours you clean. If you or someone else picks up calls and texts from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, those are your hours. You are a service-area business, so customers will not expect a storefront as long as your address is hidden and your service area is set.

2. Include Saturday if you work Saturdays. In our data only 37% of carpet cleaners show Saturday hours and 24.1% show Sunday. If you take weekend jobs, saying so puts you in a smaller group.

3. Add holiday hours now. Google lets you set special hours for specific dates. Put in Thanksgiving week, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, even if they are your normal hours. Profiles with confirmed holiday hours look current.

4. Do not list 24 hours unless someone actually answers. 11.8% of carpet cleaners list 24-hour service. If you do water extraction and have a real on-call setup, that may be you. If not, a "24 hours" label that goes to voicemail at midnight earns a bad review.

5. Match your website. Put the same hours in your site's footer and on your contact page. Google compares the two. Our website essentials guide shows where they go.

Then catch the calls you cannot answer

Listing hours brings in more calls during those hours, including ones you will miss while you are running the wand. Set up an automatic text-back for missed calls:

"Thanks for calling [company]. We are on a job right now. Reply with your name and what needs cleaning, and we will text you back within the hour."

Our missed calls guide covers the timing and wording, and the calculator shows what a few missed calls a week add up to over a season.

While you are in the profile

Two more quick checks, since you are already logged in:

  • Primary category. It should be "Carpet cleaning service." If you do upholstery or tile and grout, add those as additional categories only if you actually do the work.
  • Reviews. The median carpet cleaning company in our benchmark report has 12 Google reviews. If you are under that, the holiday season is a good time to ask, because customers are happy right before they host. Our review guide has the words.

Our Google profile guide walks through the rest of the profile, field by field.

How to tell if it worked

Give it two to three weeks. In the Performance section of your profile, look at calls and direction requests by day of the week. If Saturday and evening calls start showing up, the hours are doing their job. Make sure someone answers them.
