The pre-holiday rush is six weeks out. Here is what to do with them

October decides your November. A week-by-week plan to fill the pre-holiday calendar using the past-customer list, weekend hours and hosting ads.

It is early September, which means the busiest three weeks of your year are about ten weeks away and the window to do anything about them closes in about six. The pre-holiday rush is the most concentrated demand in carpet cleaning. Everybody hosting Thanksgiving decides in the same fortnight that the living room cannot look like that when the in-laws arrive.

Most owners meet that rush by answering the phone more. The ones who fill November at full rate do the work in October, when nobody is calling yet.

Week 1 and 2 of October: text the list

Your past-customer list is the only channel where the demand already exists. Carpet gets cleaned every 12 to 18 months, so anybody you cleaned in the fall of last year is due now, and they were, by definition, willing to pay you once.

Segment by last service date and send two different messages.

To anyone cleaned 11 or more months ago: "Hi [name], we cleaned the family room and stairs for you last November. Most homes are due about now and my holiday Saturdays fill by the end of October. I have the 18th and the 25th open. Want one?"

To anyone cleaned five to ten months ago: skip them entirely. Texting somebody who does not need you is how a list stops working.

Named dates outperform "book now" by a wide margin, because a date is a decision and "book now" is a chore. Send from your business number, one message, no links unless you have online booking.

If your records are a pile of invoices in a scheduling app, export them now into a spreadsheet with name, mobile, address, last service date and rooms. That spreadsheet is worth more than your ad account.

Week 3: fix the profile before the traffic arrives

Search volume climbs through October and peaks in the first two weeks of November. What you fix now gets seen. What you fix on November 5 does not.

Publish real hours, including at least one weekend day. 50% of carpet cleaning listings show no hours at all and only 37% show Saturday, which means half the trade is invisible to a homeowner filtering for "open now" on the Saturday morning they decide to do something about the carpet. Set holiday special hours now so your profile does not read "closed" the week of Thanksgiving.

Add fresh before-and-after photos. 95.1% of listings have at least one photo, so images are table stakes; genuine traffic-lane pairs from your own jobs are the differentiator. Add a public email address if you do not have one, because only 20.9% of the trade publishes one and this is also the season when office managers book their lobbies.

The full checklist is in the profile guide.

Week 4: turn the ads to hosting

Change the angle, not just the budget. Through most of the year carpet cleaning ads sell clean carpet. From mid-October they sell a house that is ready for people.

On Meta, run a 15-second clip of one wand pass with the line "Thanksgiving is five weeks out." On Google, raise the budget 30% to 50% from about October 15 and hold it through the week before Christmas. Click costs rise in that window and so does the booking rate, which more than covers it. Details in the Google Ads guide and the Meta guide.

One warning: do not discount into a peak. Demand is arriving on its own. If you want a promotion, bundle it. "Three rooms, one sofa free" protects your rate; 25% off in November is money you did not have to give away.

Weeks 5 and 6: make sure the calls land

This is the part that decides the season. In the first two weeks of November you will be inside houses for two to three hours at a time with a machine running, and the phone will be in the van. Every one of those calls is somebody who has decided to spend money in the next fourteen days.

Turn on missed-call text-back before the rush, not during it. One automation, five seconds, asking a question: "Sorry we missed you, we are on a job. Rooms and city is all I need and I will send a time." Then answer the thread between jobs. Run your own numbers through the calculator; for most one-truck operations the missed calls in a peak month are worth more than the entire month's ad budget. The setup is in the missed-call guide.

Decide too who answers when you are booked out. Booking somebody three weeks out beats sending them to the next company on the list, and a customer kept comes back every 12 to 18 months.

The two things to sell in November

Protectant. The easiest add-on to sell to somebody who is about to have twenty people and a gravy boat in the house. Price it per square foot and mention it on every quote.

Upholstery. The sofa gets sat on by guests and nobody thinks about it until you point at it. Twenty-five minutes with a machine that is already running.

Both are why an honest per-room price works better than a cheap headline number. The margin was never in the base clean, which the pricing guide works through.

And then December 20

Stop advertising for the last ten days of the year. Nobody books carpet between Christmas and New Year. Use that week to segment the list for January, because the customers you clean in November are the ones who fill next October, and the ones you cleaned last January are due right now.
